Ramakrishna Mission was established by Swami Vivekananda in 1897. Ramakrishna Mission is a registered charitable society helping everyone to work for “One’s own liberation and for the welfare of the world as well.” Its ideals are renunciation and service; and it serves humanity in a spirit of worship of God in all beings, in all possible fields irrespective of caste, creed, etc.
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have a total of 179 branches in India and abroad. Its Head Quarters are at Belur Math, in Howrah district, North of Kolkata. The activities of the Mission include:
(a) Primary relief during floods, famines, cyclones, earthquakes etc. and rehabilitation work later.
(b) Medical services: Mission has 15 major hospitals, 125 dispensaries and 60 mobile dispensaries, 5 Old Age Homes, and 7 Nurses’ Training Institutes.
(c) Educational: The Mission runs about 1417 educational institutions of various kinds ranging from nursery to doctorate level.
(d) Integrated rural development and tribal development programmes.
(e) Children and youth activities.
(f) Spiritual and cultural activities.

Let there be a dozen such lion-souls in each country, lions who have broken their own bonds, who have touched the Infinite, whose whole soul is gone to Brahman, who care neither for wealth nor power nor fame, and these will be enough to shake the world.
